Artist's Description

This is 1 of 3 Triptych (trilogy) of RBC series. What started out as an abstract painting, turned into the start of my science art. A coworker said this painting looks like RBC's (red blood cells). The name polychromatic means many colors. Young RBC's (reticulocytes) have both blue color (due to RNA) and pink color (due to hemoglobin) when stained with Wright's Geimsa stain. Retics (young RBC's) are sent in the blood circulation earlier than normal to compensate when there is a decrease or loss of blood. Such decreases are caused by acute blood loss (due to surgery or injury), iron deficiency, anemia, thalassemias, and other hemoglobinopathies (hemoglobin diseases). The presence of these cells are also a sign of effective erythropoiesis, meaning the persons bone marrow is functioning and responding normally to the loss of blood by producing more cells.

About Amelie Simmons

Amelie Simmons

I am an artist using acrylic paint as my primary medium of choice to create my illusions of reality. My genre of painting include traditional impressionism, abstract, and dimensional (3D touch me) paintings. I enjoy exploring different styles of art, from fine detailed brushstrokes to the spontaneity of painting freely with my fingers. My passion for my artwork originates from a strong desire to capture images of life moments, places, and feelings onto canvas. I find inspiration locally and from my adventures while traveling. Scuba diving has provided me with a new perspective of the underwater world with my seascape paintings; while my career as a clinical laboratory scientist has given me access to the invisible life forms under a...
