This is 1 of 3 Triptych (trilogy) of RBC series. What started out as an abstract painting, turned into the start of my science art. A coworker said this painting looks like RBC's (red blood cells). The name polychromatic means many colors. Young RBC's (reticulocytes) have both blue color (due to RNA) and pink color (due to hemoglobin) when stained with Wright's Geimsa stain. Retics (young RBC's) are sent in the blood circulation earlier than normal to compensate when there is a decrease or loss of blood. Such decreases are caused by acute blood loss (due to surgery or injury), iron deficiency, anemia, thalassemias, and other hemoglobinopathies (hemoglobin diseases).
